Peat, Complexity, and the Art of the Cask
Octomore is the world's most heavily peated single malt whisky — a series from Bruichladdich that pushes the boundaries of what peat smoke can be. The 16.2 takes the same Scottish mainland barley malted to an extraordinary 101.4 PPM as its sibling expressions, but charts a dramatically different course through the cask. After initial maturation in Oloroso sherry and Bordeaux casks, the spirit is finished in Madeira and Portuguese Moscatel — a layered, complex cask journey that wraps the fierce peat smoke in a rich tapestry of dried fruit, caramelised sugar, and roasted nuts. The result is Octomore at its most indulgent and complex.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Rich and inviting — caramelised sugar, roasted nuts, and dried fruit with a sweet campfire smoke that builds gently beneath
- Palate: Full-bodied and layered — Oloroso sherry richness, dark fruit, and a warming Madeira sweetness enveloped in earthy, intense peat smoke
- Finish: Long and complex with lingering dried fruit, roasted nuts, and a deep, smoky warmth that fades slowly
