The World's Most Heavily Peated Whisky

Octomore is Bruichladdich's most audacious creation — a series that asks what happens when you take Islay's legendary peat smoke and push it further than anyone thought possible. The 16.1 is the purest expression of the Octomore philosophy: 100% Scottish mainland Concerto barley, malted to a staggering 101.4 PPM, then matured for five years in first-fill bourbon barrels. The result defies expectation — despite the ferocious peating levels, the bourbon cask brings a surprising delicacy and sweetness that makes the 16.1 simultaneously powerful and elegant. This is peat reimagined.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Intense yet surprisingly delicate — salted caramel, honeyed melon, and apricot with a soft wave of earthy minerality and a building peat smoke that never overwhelms
Palate: Bold and complex — chocolate, coconut, and a creamy bourbon sweetness woven through with dry, earthy peat smoke and a lingering mineral quality
Finish: Long and warming with lingering smoke, salted caramel, and a clean, peaty warmth that fades slowly and satisfyingly
