Bottled at 40% ABV, the final blend features aromas of caramelized coconut, vanilla, cooked agave, fruity notes such as caramelized cherry and roasted pineapple, citrus hints of fresh lemon, and spices including cinnamon, tonka pepper, nutmeg, and cardamom. These are complimented by delicate herbal tones like mint, spearmint, sage, freshly cut grass, and floral nuances such as roses.
To commemorate the release, Mexico City-based artist Sophia Castellanos created a bespoke label and box celebrating each state in the Denomination of Origin, embodied by ‘spirit animals’ representing each state’s culture and history.
Castellanos chose the coyote, the god of Sun and Fire, to represent Guanajuato, while the hummingbird, for Jalisco, embodies beauty, vitality and joy and is commonly found in art and symbolism across the region. Michoacan’s butterfly symbolizes transformation and positive change, and in the local culture butterflies were thought to be spirits that could carry messages between worlds. In Nayarit, the deer represents fertility and abundance, and is the animal that leads shamans through their spiritual journey. For Tamaulipas, Tenek, a half-fish, half-crocodile god, embodies the myth that when the gods divided the fish, heaven and earth were created.
The unique five-sided bottle also pays homage to the five states from which the agaves from the expression were sourced.
