Ancient Grain, Living Tradition

Bere is one of Scotland's oldest cultivated grains — a six-row barley variety that has been grown in the Orkney Islands and the Scottish Highlands for over 6,000 years. Bruichladdich's Bere Barley expression is a tribute to this ancient heritage and a testament to the distillery's unwavering commitment to terroir and provenance. By using this rare, heritage barley variety — which produces lower yields and is far more difficult to work with than modern strains — Bruichladdich creates a whisky of remarkable distinctiveness: lighter, more delicate, and with a complexity that speaks directly of the ancient grain from which it was made.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Delicate and fresh — green apple, fresh citrus, and a gentle floral sweetness with hints of lightly spiced gingerbread and soft cereal grain
Palate: Light and elegant — orchard fruit, vanilla, and a subtle spice that carries the ancient barley's distinctive character with quiet confidence
Finish: Clean and medium-length with lingering citrus, gentle spice, and a fresh, grain-forward warmth
