The Barrel Agave of Santa Catarina Minas
Real Minero Barril is a rare and extraordinary mezcal made from wild Barril agave — one of the most unusual and prized agave varieties produced by Real Minero, one of Oaxaca's most celebrated and respected traditional mezcal families. The Barril agave ("barrel" in Spanish, named for its distinctive barrel-shaped piña) is grown in the unique terroir of Santa Catarina Minas, a village renowned for producing some of the finest and most complex mezcals in all of Oaxaca. Real Minero uses ancestral clay pot distillation methods that have been practiced by the Angeles family for generations.
