Ancestral Craft, Multiple Wild Agaves

Madre Mezcal Ancestral Ensamble is a rare and extraordinary expression produced using ancestral distillation methods — the most traditional and labor-intensive category of mezcal production, using clay pots or hollowed logs rather than copper or stainless steel stills. Madre Mezcal is dedicated to preserving the most ancient mezcal-making traditions of Oaxaca, and the Ancestral Ensamble brings together multiple wild agave varieties distilled using these time-honored methods, producing a mezcal of extraordinary complexity and historical significance.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Complex and distinctive — roasted agave, tropical fruit, and a rich smoke with notes of earth, dried herbs, and a multi-agave complexity enhanced by the ancestral clay pot distillation
Palate: Full-bodied and deeply layered — roasted agave sweetness, tropical fruit, and a warming smoke with a satisfying complexity and a textured, ancestral character
Finish: Long and warming with lingering smoke, tropical fruit, and a clean, mineral earthiness
