Sweetness Meets Kentucky Craft

Green River Distilling Co. has been crafting whiskey in Owensboro, Kentucky since 1885, and their Honey Finished Bourbon is a testament to that legacy. This expression takes their signature small-batch bourbon and finishes it in honey barrels, adding a luscious layer of natural sweetness to an already well-rounded spirit.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Warm honey, vanilla bean, toasted oak, and a hint of dried fruit
  • Palate: Rich caramel, clover honey, baking spice, and soft corn sweetness
  • Finish: Smooth and lingering with honeyed warmth and a touch of cinnamon

This was one of the bottles I was really looking forward to this year, so I was happy to see the shop bring it in. I'm a fan of honey-finished whiskeys, and this one didn't disappoint. One thing to know is that the honey influence comes from adding honey to the barrel rather than finishing the bourbon in a barrel that previously held honey, which is a little different than what some people might expect. Regardless of how it's made, the result is a sweet, dessert-like bourbon where the honey is very noticeable without becoming overpowering. If you enjoy sweeter pours or honey-finished whiskeys, this is absolutely worth checking out. For the price, I think it's one of the best values in pours we will see this year.
