A Scottish Whisky with a Spanish Soul
Compass Box has always told stories through their blends, and Story of the Spaniard is one of their most evocative. Named after a pub in Hampstead, London, this blended malt Scotch whisky is a love letter to the influence of Spanish oak — specifically ex-Rioja and ex-Oloroso sherry casks — on Highland and Speyside malts. The result is a whisky that bridges two worlds: the green hills of Scotland and the sun-drenched bodegas of Spain.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Generous and inviting — dried apricot, orange peel, and milk chocolate open the glass, followed by warm cinnamon, clove, and a gentle waft of polished oak.
- Palate: Silky and medium-bodied, with layers of stewed plum, fig, and marzipan woven through with vanilla cream and a touch of nutmeg. The Spanish cask influence is unmistakable and beautifully integrated.
- Finish: Medium-long and warming, with lingering dried fruit, toasted oak, and a soft spice that fades into a clean, sweet close.
