Tasting Notes: 

Nose: Refined sweetness of butterscotch and caramelized sugar, accented by sassafras and root-beer notes reminiscent of an old-fashioned soda.

Palate: Rich and well-balanced, this store pick opens with barrel char that quickly softens into caramel, maple syrup, and candied pecan. Raspberry and red plum emerge mid-palate, lifted by a touch of orange oil brightness. Gentle clove and cinnamon warmth add depth without overpowering, while subtle sweet-pea and summer-garden florals and a honeyed undertone round out the experience.

Finish: Medium to long, with floral notes lingering before giving way to sweet, fruity, and nutty layers, and a final hint of wintergreen freshness.

Selection Details: Selected by the Unwind Barrel Selection Team. Pinhook is a perfect example of why blind tastings are important and how brands can affect the image of the bourbon. We have been cautioned by customers to avoid this brand, but we still decided to give it a try since we heard these bourbons were aging well. After blinding all of our barrels from the last 6 months, this barrel seemed to always come out on top, beating some customer favorites like our Old Louisville Double Oaked (still a really great barrel). Although shocking and may require some unbrainwashing from the brand's past, this bourbon deserves a well-respected applause for its quality and price point.
