Old Potrero 6 year Rye Whiskey

Old Potrero is the flagship rye whiskey from Anchor Distilling in San Francisco — one of the pioneers of the American craft spirits movement. Named for the Potrero Hill neighborhood where Anchor has operated since 1896, Old Potrero is a tribute to the pre-Prohibition rye whiskey tradition, made with 100% malted rye and aged 6 years in handmade fine grain charred American oak barrels.

In traditional barrel making, the cooper heats the staves over a fire of oak chips, allowing them to be bent and formed into a barrel. During this process, the inside becomes lightly toasted. By the early 19th century, coopers learned that if they allowed the heat to continue, the inside would burst into flames and become charred. These handmade charred oak barrels impart a rich color and unique character to this historic rye whiskey.
